TECS - EFL Academy Teacher in Spain

TECS has been running English language academies for over 25 years. They offer academic foreign language classes of English, as well as total immersion summer camps and language travel programs. They are currently looking for some dynamic and energetic EFL teachers to join their team of 15-20 teachers for the upcoming academic year.

About the position

Location:They have two academies in the province Cádiz – One in the beach resort town of El Puerto de Santa Maria, and another in the historical city of Jerez de la Frontera. Contract dates:
  • Staff Training Week: 26/09/2024 – 30/09/2024
  • Start work 02/10/2024
  • Finish work 14/06/2025
Students: They accept students from 3 years old and up. Classes: 6-14 students with classes of all levels. They also have some smaller group classes of 3-5 students in a class. Schedule: Classes are 1 or 1.5 hours long depending on the age. Class timetables vary depending on the TECS centre. Required block teaching hours are as follows:
  • TECS-Puerto 16:15 - 21:50 (Monday to Thursday and until 20:45 on Fridays)
  • TECS-Jerez 16:00 - 20:00 (Monday to Fridays)
In addition to this afternoon timetable, TECS teachers might teach one morning class which can be a group or individual student and can be either onsite or offsite. Responsibilities:
  • To run the TEFL classes professionally and effectively, ensuring the students learn the most English possible.
  • Holding a high standard of image and professionalism at all times.
  • Making sure that the safety and well being of the students is at a high standard at all times and that our high standards of learning English are up kept.
  • To represent the centre and TECS positively at all times.

Benefits

Salary: Salaries for full-time EFL teachers at TECS for the 2024-2025 academic year range from 820€/month to 1200€/month gross, based on a range of 16 to 25 contact hours per week and an average of 5 to 15 hours per week of administration and planning hours a week for all teachers. Teachers teaching under 12 hours a week are paid at 12€/hour gross. Bonus schemes:
  • Staff training: Teachers will be paid for the Teacher Induction sessions at a daily rate of 20€ gross pay. (This will be added to October pay)
  • Staff returning would also gain a 60€ gross bonus (This will be added to October pay)
  • Staff using their own laptop/ ipad devices will be paid a 50€ gross bonus at the end of the year
  • They offer a performance bonus of 250€ gross over the year. A possible 125€ gross at the end of March and the rest at the end of the year, subject to:
    • 90% of student continuity across their classes during the year
    • Performance based.

Peppy Kids Club - Teach English in Japan

Peppy Kids Club is currently the second largest provider of private English instruction in Japan, with a network of children’s English language classrooms from Hokkaido to Okinawa. They have more than 130,000 students, and they employ more than 1,500 Japanese English teachers and more than 400 English teachers from around the world to instruct their students. Peppy Kids Club is now looking for more qualified teachers to join their team.

About the position

Location: Various locations across Japan. While they take location requests into consideration, placement locations are not guaranteed. Contract: Contract terms are between 12 and 13 months. Teachers who perform well are given the option to renew. Teaching hours: Their foreign teachers are assigned to 4 different classrooms each month, spending a week at each classroom location. They teach 3 to 4 lesson hours per day (average), 5 days per week. Schedule Lessons are typically scheduled in mid-afternoon and evenings. Student ages: Approximately 2.5 – 17 years old Responsibilities: Their students receive weekly English instruction from both Japanese and Foreign teachers in a fun and interactive learning environment. Teachers teach independently, without the assistance of other staff at the classroom, and they are responsible for the welfare of the students from the time they arrive at the classroom until the time they are picked-up by guardians. Requirements

They are looking for highly enthusiastic people who will enjoy working with children and teaching them English. They also want people who are able to work independently and meet the challenges of living in a foreign country.
  • All of their foreign teachers must have complete control of the English language, and therefore we focus on native English-speaking candidates.
  • The minimum requirement for this visa is a degree from a recognized university. Applicants who are eligible for other types of visas will be considered.
  • While they prefer applicants who have experience working with children, formal teaching qualifications or previous experience is not required.
  • As part of the employment screening process, applicants will be asked to provide a criminal background check and a note from a physician confirming their good health. Applicants will be responsible for any processing fees.
  • Successful applicants must take an x-ray exam to screen for tuberculosis. Applicants will be responsible for any related fees.

Classes: The typical class size at JCS is 22 students, although some are significantly smaller. Students: Most of their students speak Spanish as their first language, but everyone develops fluency in their second language throughout their education at JCS, whether they are more fluent in Spanish or English. Facilities: Every classroom at JCS has a whiteboard, TV screen, bookshelves, chairs and tables for students, and a desk and chair for the teacher. Every room also has either fans or air conditioning to keep everyone cool throughout the day. Materials: They provide textbooks for teachers to use to plan their lessons and in the younger grades, every student gets a workbook that they can write in for math and English. Every teacher is able to request materials that they need for their class at any point during the year. Technology: They pride themselves on being one of the most technologically advanced schools in Jarabacoa so it is imperative that every teacher has a computer. They give everyone access to a Google Account to save storage on their computer, and they use Gradelink to keep every connected.

Requirements

Requirements vary depending on the position you are applying for, but every teacher is required to have:
  • A teaching certificate — either at degree-level or a TEFL certification.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant subject.
  • A clean criminal record
  • A positive attitude towards personal development.
  • Christian values ​
They prefer candidates with teaching experience, however, they are open to any candidate with a minimum of a bachelor's degree and the willingness to gain, apply, and share knowledge. All teachers must share their moral values. *Priority will be given to applicants with teaching experience.

How to apply

JCS aims to hire teachers for the complete academic year, from August to June as it is disruptive to students if their teachers change throughout the year. Depending on the circumstances, they sometimes accept teachers for one semester rather than a full year, however, in general, they ask that if you cannot commit to fulfilling your contract then please do not apply.
