Introducing our charity partner: Global Virtual School

We’re proud to be a partner with GVS – an exciting new project from the Worldwide Education Fund of the Dallas Foundation. Together we hope to provide English language training for underserved regions of the world.

Those who are subscribed to our newsletter should know that at World TESOL Academy we recently opened up applications for a free online teaching practicum. This practicum has been made possible by our charity partner – The Worldwide Education Fund (WEF).

In this post we’ll delve deeper into who they are, what they do, and how you can be a part of their mission.

How the Worldwide Education Fund started:

The Worldwide Education Fund was founded by Connie and Kamal Daya after they returned from a trip to South Asia. While there they witnessed the difficulties faced by students in rural regions when it came to accessing education resources.

With the desire to help break the cycle of generational poverty in these areas, and with backing from The Dallas Foundation, the Worldwide Education Fund was created in 2009. Together with a passionate board of directors, they’ve leveraged their skills and resources to organize a range of education initiatives in rural regions around Asia.

Worldwide Education Fund’s operations:

The Worldwide Education Fund works with students in several regions around Asia – including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Tajikistan.

These operations include both teaching online over the internet, and with brick-and-mortar classrooms. Through these initiatives they’ve helped to empower over 10,000 students – building both English language skills and technology proficiency.

Global Virtual School (GVS)

Global Virtual School (GVS), through which our practicum will be conducted, is one of their newest and most ambitious initiatives yet.

It aims to help students to improve their English and their critical thinking skills by combining online teachers with physical classrooms. Small groups of students will get access to stable classroom environments where they can attend English language lessons each week. Certified English language teachers will then attend these lessons, having their video broadcast in the classroom via a projector.

GVS connects educators from English-speaking countries to these youths, giving both teachers and students a priceless opportunity to learn through an experience like no other through GVS’ online platform.

Our free practicum with GVS:

We are launching the first official run of our free 20-hour teaching practicum with GVS this September.

Successful applicants will get to build experience with planning lessons and teaching a class of real students. On the other side of the screen will be a classroom with eager students ready to learn. To help these lessons be as effective as possible, there’ll also be live classroom helpers on-site ready to assist with any activities.

If you would like to be a part of this one-of-a-kind experience, helping to make a difference in the world while enhancing your skills, then head over here to submit your application before July 31st 2022: https://www.worldtesolacademy.com/online-teaching-practicum/
