What is a “Level 5 diploma”?

A diploma is a more advanced teaching qualification that can give you a significant career advantage. This diploma is regulated by OFQUAL and sits on the government’s internationally recognized Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).

This means that it’s more advanced than a regular 120-hour TESOL/TEFL, gives more training, and is equivalent to the following:

CELTA / foundation degree / associate’s degree (US)

The diploma is open for everybody around the world. You simply need to be competent in English and to have an interest in teaching.

Is it open to non-native speakers?

Yes – it’s possible to do this as a non-native English speaker if you’re proficient in English.

You’ll need to write in English for your assignments without having spelling or grammar issues. As such, you should be around a C1 level on the CEFR scale.

If you’re unsure of your level you can use the free EF Set test. A score of 61-70 is roughly equivalent to a C1 on the CEFR scale.

Ofqual, the government department responsible for education, has determined the course to be:

  • 320 hours of TQT (total qualification time)
  • 200 hours of GLH (guided learning hours)

GLH covers the time actually spent directly learning from the course materials, while TQT time covers the additional time spent considering points in the materials, conducting independent study, and preparing for assessments.

The diploma includes 3 sections with assignments. Two of these are larger two-part assignments, so you could consider this as 5 assignments in total.

You have two attempts to pass each assignment, and will get detailed feedback between each attempt.
