How does online teaching work?
It all starts with a simple webcam and internet connection.
Approximately 1 billion students around the world are currently studying English. Children, teens, and adults, in big cities, local towns, and remote communities. The difficulty is getting suitable teachers to each of these classrooms.
This is where online teaching has taken off. Students can now simply open up their laptops or pick up their smartphones and connect with teachers to have fun and engaging language lessons. All they need is a relatively inexpensive device and a connection to the internet.
Can I teach English online?
Yes! Online teaching is growing in popularity each year.
If you can speak English fluently, have a stable internet connection, and have a device with a clear camera & microphone, it could be possible to teach English from the comfort of your own home. Students all over the world are using phone apps and websites to connect with teachers and study in a convenient way. However, to effectively teach online you’ll need to know how to use the correct techniques. Most TESOL/TEFL courses just show traditional classroom teaching skills, but at World TESOL Academy we’ll show how to adapt these techniques for online use as well.
You’ll get an email with a link to your course preview.

Why are students moving online?
Fast internet and new online teaching tools.
Online teaching has existed for over 15 years, but has grown in popularity particularly over the past 3-5 years. This rise in popularity has come largely through more affordable laptops, smartphones, and increasingly accessible internet services around the world.
Another driver has been a new era of online teaching platforms. Previously, people would teach using Skype, with limited tools at their disposal. Nowadays, there are a range of platforms that can host stable lessons with multiple students, and that come with tools to help you manage lessons with ease.
How much can teachers earn?
Potential earnings can fall into three tiers.
As with most jobs, the pay for online teaching can depend on your skills, certifications, and experience. It’s common for teachers to earn between $10-$30 per hour, with more experienced teachers earning towards the upper limit. Monthly wages can often range from part time work of around $500 per month, and full-time tutor can see salaraies much higher.
Native English speakers do tend to command a higher hourly rate, but fluent non-native speakers can still earn a good amount after building up some experience. Teaching more specialist classes can be great ways to boost your monthly income. lorem lorem ipsum blah loren blah.

Equipment for teaching online
The equipment, qualifications, and skills to teach English online
Most online teachers use a simple laptop with a webcam and a headset. However, using a tablet or smartphone is also possible. The most important thing is that you can host a stable call with smooth video and clear audio.
Most laptops and smartphones will come with cameras and microphones built into them. These can often be suitable for online teaching, but sometimes it can help to have dedicated equipment. A headset can help you to more clearly hear your students, an external microphone can ensure your students hear your pronunciations, and a webcam can ensure they see you in high-definition.
