Peppy Kids Club – Teach English in Japan

iTTTi Japan’s Peppy Kids Club is one of the largest providers of children’s English language instruction in Japan, with classrooms located all across the nation, from Hokkaido to Okinawa.

With more than 120,000 student enrollments since its founding in 1989, and a team of 1,800 Japanese English teachers and 500 teachers from overseas, they are dedicated to educating the children of Japan and sparking a lifelong interest in the English language and the global community.

Peppy Kids Club is now looking for more highly enthusiastic people who enjoy working with children and teaching English.

About the position

Peppy Kids Club’s students receive weekly English instruction from both Japanese and Foreign teachers in a fun and interactive learning environment. Their syllabus is designed in collaboration with academic experts and their classrooms are well stocked with textbooks and teaching supplies that are produced by the company.

  • Location: Various locations across Japan. While they take location requests into consideration, placement locations are not guaranteed.
  • Contract: Contract terms are between 12 and 13 months. Teachers who perform well are given the option to renew.
  • Teaching hours: Their foreign teachers are assigned to 4 different classrooms each month, spending a week at each classroom location. Each lesson is 1 hour long and teachers teach 3 to 4 lessons per day, 5 days per week on average. Lessons are typically scheduled in mid-afternoon and evenings.
  • Student ages: Most of the students are between 2 and 17 years old.
  • Class size: Classes can have up to 15 students in them. The average class size is 6-10 students.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Teachers teach independently, without the assistance of other staff in the classroom, and they are responsible for the welfare of the students from the time they arrive at the classroom until the time they are picked-up by guardians.
    • The lessons are conducted entirely in English – Peppy Kids Club does not use Japanese in the classroom.
    • The lessons are filled with activities, such as singing, dancing, and games. Working with children, while stimulating and rewarding, is also physically and mentally demanding.
    • In addition to their standard lessons, the company initiates new lesson programs from time to time.  Some teachers are asked to help with these projects.
    • Teachers may be asked to participate in public events designed for student enrollment.
  • Teaching materials: Their syllabus is designed in collaboration with academic experts, and their classrooms are well stocked with textbooks and teaching supplies that are produced by the company.

  • Medical insurance: Employees will be enrolled onto Company Insurance (shakai hoken) which includes health insurance and Japanese pension contributions.
  • New teacher training: All new teachers receive 2 full weeks of comprehensive training before moving to their assigned locations where they will spend the remainder of their contract term. During training, teachers learn about the Peppy Kids Club syllabus and working with children as well as receiving orientation about living in Japan. The training session is a combination of seminars, workshops and practical teaching (trainees take part in actual lessons). Their trainers are dedicated to ensuring that trainees are confident and ready to teach after the completion of training.
  • Accommodation: Teachers have the option of renting an apartment from the company.
