Heart Corporation – Teach English in Japan’s Public Schools

About the position:

Heart Corporation’s number one goal is to help motivate the student to feel comfortable using real English communication and to get used to being in an English setting. To accomplish this goal, you will work side by side with the Japanese teacher to help with games and activities, role-playing, and assisting the teacher with giving them the help they need to try to perfect their English curriculum.

Location: Kanto area — Japan

Job type: Classroom-based job

Age range of the students: Heart teaches in elementary, junior high, and high school mainly in the Kanto area.

Teaching schedule:

  • The work week is Monday through Friday (Saturdays, Sundays & Japanese Holidays are off.)
  • Working Hours: 8:00 – 4:30 (The times vary from city to city)
  • Teaching Time: 4 – 5 classes per day.

Responsibilities: The role of an ALT has two main duties — Providing fun and effective English lessons and Internationalizing Japanese youth by giving them first-hand knowledge and experience of different cultures.

Requirements:

Their company values aspiring and experienced teachers looking to learn how the Japanese style of teaching works.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (Any field)
  • No visible tattoos
  • Proficiency in English both written and spoken is required in this role.
  • Passion for Teaching: Enthusiastic about working with kids and teens.
  • TEFL/TESOL Certification: A plus, not required.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable adjusting to new cultures and work settings.
  • Communication Skills: Good at interacting with students and colleagues.
  • Organizational Skills: Able to plan and conduct engaging lessons.
  • Team Player: Ready to work with Japanese teachers and staff.
  • Although some teaching experience is preferred, it is not required because all teachers will undergo some training before beginning any position.
  • A basic Japanese conversation level or higher is desired. If you don’t know much or any Japanese, you will need to study enough to reach a basic conversation level, though being skilled in Japanese is not demanded.
