TECS - English Teaching Positions in Spain

TECS is a sister company of The Educational Group “El Centro Inglés/The English Centre”, an international school with over 54 years of experience in English-Spanish bilingual education. They are the centre of reference in the province of Cadiz for the Trinity ESOL exams and are a preparation Centre for the University of Cambridge ESOL exams. With 26 years of experience, they offer academic foreign language classes of English as well as total immersion summer camps and language travel programs. Each year, they succeed in teaching more than 2000 students to communicate in a new language. They are now looking for more English teachers to join them at their English Academies in the Cadiz area in the south of Spain.

About the position:

Location: They have two language centres located on the Costa de la Luz in the southwest of Spain. Puerto language centre and offices located in El Puerto de Santa Maria, a seaside town of approximately 90,000 overlooking the Bay of Cádiz and which boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the country as well as numerous historical points of interest. El Puerto is accessible by railway from Sevilla, Jerez and Cádiz. Their second centre is located in Jerez de la Frontera with a population of approximately 212,000. Jerez is the largest in the province and lies on a central strip running from the mountains down through the countryside. It’s well known for its wines, its horses and its flamenco, preserves a historic centre that has been declared a historic artistic site. They are based in the educational centre Jesus-María El Cuco on the north end of the city near the Feria grounds. Contract dates:
  • Staff Training Week: 25/09/2024 – 30/09/2024
  • Start work 01/10/2024
  • Finish work 14/06/2025
  • Language Centre Classes Start Date: 01/10/2024
Schedule: Class timetables vary depending on the TECS centre. Required block teaching hours in their centres are as follows:
  • TECS-Puerto 16:15 - 21:50 (Monday to Thursday and until 20:45 on Fridays)
  • TECS-Jerez 16:00 - 20:00 (Monday to Fridays)
Classes are an hour or an hour and a half in length, two or three times a week with semi-optional reinforcement, activities and conversation classes on Fridays. In addition to this afternoon timetable, TECS teachers might teach one morning class which can be a group or individual student and can be either onsite or offsite. Students: Class sizes at TECS range from 6 to 14 students. They also have some smaller group classes of 3-5 students in a class. Student ages: They accept students from age 3 and up. Classes: Classes of all levels Responsibilities:
  • To run the TEFL classes professionally and effectively, ensuring the students learn the most English possible.
  • Holding a high standard of image and professionalism at all times.
  • Making sure that the safety and well being of the students is at a high standard at all times and that their high standards of learning English are up kept.
  • To represent the centre and TECS positively at all times.

Salary & Benefits:

Salary: Salaries for full-time EFL teachers at TECS for the 2024-2025 academic year range from 820€/month to 1200€/month gross, based on a range of 16 to 25 contact hours per week and an average of 5 to 15 hours per week of administration and planning hours a week for all teachers. Teachers teaching under 12 hours a week are paid at 12€/hour gross. Bonus schemes:
  • Staff training: Teachers will be paid for the Teacher Induction sessions at a daily rate of 20€ gross pay. (This will be added to October pay)
  • Staff returning would also gain a 60€ gross bonus (This will be added to October pay)
  • Staff using their own laptop/ ipad devices will be paid a 50€ gross bonus at the end of the year
  • They offer a performance bonus of 250€ gross over the year. A possible 125€ gross at the end of March and the rest at the end of the year, subject to:
    • 90% of student continuity across their classes during the year
    • Performance based.
Other benefits:
  • Training in September and Continuous Professional development throughout the year
    • Teachers with 2 years or less experience and new to TECS take part in supported lesson planning sessions with the centre manager once a week from 12:30 onwards.
    • All teachers are observed throughout the academic year by TECS management and are given feedback following the observation. In addition, they are proud to have a very effective peer observation structure in place which allows all teachers to observe one or more of their peers teaching during the year.
    • For the ACEIA conference TECS pays enrolment fees and covers all transport costs for all staff who attend teacher/management training conferences in Seville in November and TECS supports and sponsors teachers who wish to give talks in these teacher training conferences.
  • Staff Events during the year: bonding meal/drinks before the academic year starts with the teachers at the end of their training week, Christmas staff event, centre organised staff events, and staff meal at the end of the academic year.
  • Knowledgeable year-round supportive management team.
  • Their Classrooms are equipped with projectors and speakers and in the Puerto centre, they can use apple TV devices.
  • Group Spanish lessons free of charge in the centre – one-hour lessons twice a week in the mornings in their main centre in El Puerto de Santa María.
  • Catered lunch supplied on-site in their El Puerto Central if you have classes before lunch and your afternoon classes.
  • Official Spanish contract from October 1 st , 2024 to June 14 th , 2025 with full Social Security coverage and full unemployment, hospitalization and pension contributions paid in by TECS. Paid holidays are all national and local (Carnival/Feria) plus Christmas and Easter breaks.
  • They have a Company flat in Puerto, which they offer to new teachers during the period of searching for accommodation and all year if required, this is down to availability. They also offer support in finding accommodation in the area.
  • Extra time off: o In their TECS-Jerez centre, due to the size and structure of the classes, they offer their teachers one Friday off each trimester, always in coordination with your centre manager. o In their TECS-Puerto centre, in coordination with your Centre manager they can coordinate an extra day off during the year.

Requirements:

Qualifications:
  • At least 1 years’ experience in full time classroom EFL teaching (if possible).
  • At least 2 professional and personal references.
  • College/University Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  • CELTA/TEFL certificate
  • E.U. passport or Spanish residence/work permit or TIE card.
  • A clear police record and proof of suitability to work with minors.
Knowledge/skills:
  • High motivation in teaching and sharing your knowledge with others (staff and students).
  • Ability to control children in a motivational and fair way, which enables them to integrate into the English environment smoothly and encourages them to speak English.
  • Very high level of oral and written skills in English.
  • High energy levels and a young but responsible and mature outlook on life and work.
  • A positive attitude and ability to put yourself in other’s shoes in order to work effectively as a key part of a diverse team.
  • Competent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
